Guerrilla Marketing 1.01
On Wednesday, March 18, I was invited to a press conference organised by Renegade and Upperroom.
Marketing Seminar – Fast and Furious
“If advertising agencies don’t advertise, why should you?”
The question that every marketing manager and businessman should ask before spending any more of your marketing budget on advertising campaigns or hiring an advertising agency. This provocative session will help you to decide if you should be committing to advertising or not. And, we’ll show you how to get the best from any advertising that you decide to do by examining ‘guerrilla campaigns’
This press conference was to discuss their marketing seminar “Fast and Furious” which was to be on Friday, March 20.
I arrived early and chatted to some of the other journalists and the staff of Upperroom and Renegade. (Interesting name - did you know that a renegade is a Christian who has converted to Islam?) Anyway, Renegade’s speciality is ‘guerrilla marketing’, ‘thinking outside the box’ and seeking unconventional ways to promote their clients.
Stephen Cranston, from Renegade, gave an interesting talk about guerrilla marketing techniques and then, when we got to the questions at the end, they passed me the microphone. Why me? Just because I got there early and chatted to the staff I suppose. Well, having been thrust into the spotlight I asked the question that had been on my mind all morning;
‘Pak, saya Eka Dewi, SmartFM; Why, if you specialize in unconventional marketing techniques, are you publicising this event using a conventional press conference and seminar with speeches and slides?”
You know what? They had no answer! :)
Sniggers from the audience and lots and smiles and nice comments to me afterwards.
….. you know, this guerrilla marketing really works. For some reason they all remember me and not the conventionally launched seminar they were promoting. hahaha
Thanks to all the good guys I met at Renegade and UpperRoom.
